############################################################# README from ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genomes/ updated: February 9, 2007 ############################################################# ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ NOTIFICATION OF CHANGE 2/9/2007: A new FTP directory, ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genomes/MapView, has been created to distribute data displayed in the MapViewer. The directory includes all current and archived builds of organisms that currently have mapview data in ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genomes/ as well as organisms displayed in MapViewer that did not previously have directories in ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genomes/. Existing mapviewer files under ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genomes/ have been replaced with links to the new locations. For more information, please refer to ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genomes/MapView/README ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ NOTIFICATION OF CHANGE: This new FTP directory has been created to distribute data generated by analysis and/or additional processing at NCBI. The new directory contains sequence records that are generated and maintained by NCBI. This includes records generated by the NCBI Reference Sequence (RefSeq) project, including complete genomes/chromosomes, contigs, and reference sequence mRNAs and proteins. In addition, other data sets that are provided in NCBI resources will also be redistributed in this area. These include data presented in the Map Viewer as well as LocusLink data. Some data that was originally provided in the ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genbank/genomes/ FTP directory will now be provided in this new location. This transition will occur gradually. The first type of data to move are the NCBI generated Contig sequences. Contig updates are no longer provided in the /genbank/genomes/ area. The files in the original /genbank/genomes/ location will be retained temporarily as we transition to the new FTP area. In the future, the ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genbank/genomes/ area will be restricted to complete genome sequences that are submitted to GenBank, such as bacterial or viral genomes, and that have not undergone additional analysis or processing at NCBI. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ================================= Directory Contents for ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genomes/: ================================= This directory will be structured into sub-directories representing species, related taxanomic groups, and projects. Sub-directories Contents ------------------------------------------ Bacteria will include taxonomic-based subdirectories that provide NCBI reference sequence (RefSeq) records for complete genomes (NC_xxxxxx accession format). H_sapiens RefSeq genomic contigs (NT_xxxxxx accessions), mRNAs (NM_xxxxxx) and proteins (NP_xxxxxx); map data used to provide the displays available in the Map Viewer (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/Entrez/hum_srch) M_musculus RefSeq genomic contigs (NT_xxxxxx) R_norvegicus RefSeq genomic contigs (NT_xxxxxx)
