  • INHALATION
    		• Cough.
    		Ventilation (not if powder), local exhaust, or breathing protection.

  • SKIN
    		• Dry skin.
    		Protective gloves.
    		Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower.
  • EYES
    		• Redness.
    		Safety goggles.
    		First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION


    		• Rinse mouth.
    SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
    Sweep spilled substance into containers. Wash away remainder with plenty of water (extra personal protection: P1 filter respirator for inert particles).
    		Separated from acids.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
     ODOURLESS, WHITE SOLID IN VARIOUS FORMS.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
     The substance decomposes on heating to high temperature producing carbon dioxide. Reacts with acids causing carbon dioxide release.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
     TLV: ppm; 10 mg/m3 Nuisance particulate (ACGIH 1990-1991).


    		ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
     The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, by ingestion, and eye contact.

    INHALATION RISK:
     Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a nuisance-causing concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
     The substance irritates the eyes and the respiratory tract.

    NOTES
    To date, no adverse health effects have been reported. Exists in nature as the minerals aragonite, calcite, vaterite. Limestone, chalk and marble are natural calcium carbonate.
